Republic Day Quiz and Riddles

The school can organize a Quiz show or Riddles based on the Freedom Fighters and Independence Day dates. As young children won’t be able to understand the struggle and instances our ancestors went through at that time, the least we can do is to make them learn the names and slogans of our Freedom Fighters. 

Patriotic Movie Marathon 

In India, we believe in Nationalism and Patriotism by heart and that is why our film fraternity has created so many patriotic movies for the audience. Some of them are; URI, Raazi, Lakshya, Rang De Basanti, Swades, Parmanu, Shershaah, Lagaan, Mission Mangal, Mission Kashmir, Baby, A Wednesday, Border, and much more. 

Historical Books 

Indeed, every child enjoys a good bedtime story, Parents must be telling them about fairytales and cartoons but have they ever tried to tell them about our historical books?

Here are some suggestions for historical books that could be read to young children.

Indoor activities, Drills, and Parade

The school should conduct a Republic Day Drill and Parades to let the young children understand the importance of discipline, our cultural heritage, and unity in diversity. Parents must take them to watch parades. Some of the activities that might be helpful are listed below. 

• Dance and Sing Patriotic songs 
• Enact skits based on slogans of our freedom fighters
• Conduct a fancy dress competition
• Conduct drills based on folk dance and cultural songs 
• Perform parades to give tribute to the nation

Flag Hoisting 

It is a different feeling altogether when you watch a Flag Hoisting ceremony. The feeling of patriotism and belongingness is what every child should seek. Parents and teachers should tell young children a noteworthy difference that on Independence day, Flag Hoisting signifies our win over Colonial/British rule, and on Republic Day it signifies that the Indian Constitution was adopted this day.

Who is an Emotionally Intelligent Child?

An emotionally intelligent child can label their emotions, regulate them on normal days and be capable of controlling reactions in need. As the peak time of aggression in a child is 2 to 5 years old, the parents and teachers must verbalize their anger and think of ways to defuse them. 

There are incidences in a school when the teachers tell the parents that their young children were less interactive whereas when they are at their home it is a different aspect altogether. It is believed that little tots tend to release their true emotions only in a safe place. But it needs to be changed and they should have a spirit of emotional intelligence (EQ) among them at a younger age itself.

Difference between Cognitive skills and Social-emotional Skills

Cognitive Skills include-

How can we build Emotional Intelligence (EQ) among young children

• Storytime– Picturebook, oral storytelling, dramatic play, role-playing, debates, and letting kids read on their own. 

• Social Work– Visiting old age homes, orphanages, awareness campaigns, cleanliness campaigns, and much more

• Help in household chores- Planting, helping in the kitchen, feeding the older members of the family, etc

• Independence in work- Making their bag for school, keeping their belongings in place, chores like brushing their teeth and bathing on their own, etc

How does having emotional intelligence in children help?

With high emotional intelligence (EQ), young children can earn better grades, stay in school longer, make healthier choices, and have a sense of cooperation. 

Emotional Intelligence leads to better leadership skills and the building of meaningful friendships. 

Emotional Intelligence allows you to enhance key areas of life, home, and work in general. It is the ability to learn about oneself and apply wisdom to the world around you. 

Some people have emotional intelligence naturally, while others need to work a little harder at it. It’s well worth the effort you put in, though, as it can improve many areas of your life.
